Comedones, also known as whiteheads and blackheads, are a type of acne which is less severe than pimples and cysts, however it should not be left untreated. They can appear on the dace, shoulders and back and are a result of increased sebum that clogs the pores. Blackheads are actually open comedones that are filled with dead skin cells and debris which turn black when exposed to oxygen. Whiteheads have a microscopic opening on the skin surface making air unable to reach them so they remain white.
Treating blackheads and whiteheads
Acne treatment requires a lot of patience and persistence because there is no overnight solution for either of them. The best thing you can to is to prevent their formation, so you should use skin care products that control the bacteria on the face and that help remove the dead skin cells and dirt from your pores.
However, you must be very careful when choosing the right skin care product because some only reduce the symptoms without treating the acne. In order to successfully treat acne, you should help your body rebalance the work of the sebaceous glans in order to reduce the sebum secretion. This can be achieved by using natural products that will remove the bacteria, sebum and dead skin cells thus reduce the inflammation.
Even though proper hygiene and healthy lifestyle can be helpful, the food you eat and the amount of dirt on your skin is not the cause of acne. Aggressive scrubbing is also not recommended because it can only make things worse by increasing the sebum production.
Skincare regimen for comedones
You should use a non comedogenc cleanser as well as a chamomile astringent. Dabbing witch hazel occasionally can remove the dead skin cells and excess sebum thus prevent the oil buildup in the pores.
Even though metal extractors, squeezing with fingers or suction are commonly used for removing blackheads, they can often make permanent damage to the skin thus leave scars. Also, using aggressive face scrubs can damage the deposition of the clogging agents on the skin thus making the skin more prone to infections.
Egg white and lemon mask
Lemon juice has strong antibacterial properties and it can also eliminate the bacteria and dirt very successfully. It also cleans the pores and makes them tighter. Egg whites make the skin tighter and brighter and it shrinks the pores.
Applying egg whites on the skin can be very helpful in treatment of breakouts. However, make sure you apply the mask on a thoroughly cleaned face and don’t use it if you have applied another mask the same day.
